Day 10

Day 10 started out little excursion to Hualien from Taipei, our last trip in Taiwan.  We got picked up bright and early by our new guide, and headed off to see some sights on the way.  Stopping at the cliff side several times as we drove along the coast gave  us a chance to see the spectacular view.  The clouds come down low in the mountains, and seem to sit on them.

After driving through the mountains and through some tunnels under the mountains (thank goodness, I didn't get nearly as motion sick!), we went to a clam farm for lunch.  There was a clam museum, clam merchandise, and a pond where you could harvest your own clams!  As many clam things as you could ever imagine!  The school group fishing for clams in the pond eventually ended up just splashing each other, haha.  But we got to enjoy some delicious clams at the restaurant in peace.

We then stopped at a few more lakes, one of which we got to walk around, and one of which we were allowed to drive a paddle boat around!  It was a lot of work, but it was fun!  Working together to steer the boat had us all laughing, even if dad looks a little tired.

Tired from another day of exploring, we finally headed to our hotel, which is on a rock beach.  We'll visit there more tomorrow, but for now enjoy this great panorama in the twilight.  The hotel, which is medieval European themed, is also really cool.  What a fun find in the middle of Taiwan!

(also there were huge snails.  Please appreciate these snails)

  1. The French would looove those snails. ;)

Those mountain views are breathtaking. (Are the mountains and rock beach pretty close to each other?) Hope y'all enjoy your day at the beach!

  2. In the top photo the mountains form a bay. Our beach is in that bay. We have ocean and mountain views from the hotel's breakfast room.
